Stefan Bauer Estate
Down-to-earth, close to nature; our wine asks no questions. It simply is.
At Wagram, there is no call for 20 varieties of grape; we simply dig a little deeper with what we have. After all, it’s green all around us, but not behind our ears. With braised hare, you drink Hutzler; with sturgeon, roter veltiner; with wild boar, sylvaner. The good life can be that simple.
Holding a mirror up to a life which is simple but never dull.
Where we grew up, in the middle of Wagram, everyone knew where they belonged and what they had to do. There were hardly any machines. Nothing went to waste. It was often hard. Yet they were good times. Sometimes we long for that feeling from our childhood, so we pour a glass of our wine and know that it is all still there. Planted deep within us, waiting for us to set it free.
Ground for good wine
You cannot impose yourself upon any place, but certainly not on Wagram. It is from here that even an ancient sea once retreated, millions of years ago, leaving behind the river terraces so characteristic for the region. Upon these terraces rest the loess - the soily soul of Wagram. Along with the vintners’ skill and clement climate, these soils are what makes this region's wines so distinctive.
» VINEYARDS
Fine wines in fine company.
Lively, intensive, straightforward, without airs graces: this describes both our wine and our way of life, in the midst of a unique landscape which has gifts to give every single day. We grew up with hunting, as the dishes we serve will show you. Several times a year, we cook for our guests, open our best wine and welcome you to our Heurigen or wine tavern.
